Transferring data from an iphone 5 with an inoperable screen to a new phone

I have an iphone 5 with an inoperable screen. I have 4 months left on my contract. If I buy another Verizon iphone5 would there be a way of transferring the data? Is Verizon going to extend my mebership even though I did not buy a phone from them and the model is the same?

If the phone turns on, you *should* be able to do an iTunes backup. Hopefully, it doesn't ask for a Lockscreen passcode.
