    Okay so I have an iPhone 6, IOS 8. I'm inside an existing text thread (containing WRITTEN texts) and I'm trying to send a voice text. The microphone icon is not appearing, and the phone won't let me start a fresh text message for this person.

    Any tips for me?

    Works for me... tap the text entry box... then the microphone on the keyboard screen... of course dictation needs to be enabled in Settings>> General>> Keyboard...

    Very cool, but that's not the feature I'm asking about. I want my voice texts to reach the other person in an audio format. Any ideas on that?

    Does the other person have iMessage? If not... you won't get the option to send an audio message...
