Why wont my iphone 5 charger work on my iphone 6 now? it says cable accessory not supported?

I believe the update for
ios 8 is the bug issue. but now it wont even charge for me to try to knock off some apps and get it downloaded completely...
anyway no phone and now no alarm clock... how do survive...??? lol

Using a 3rd party cable? That's why the message... Or a failing OEM cable...
