Can I turn off "trending" apps when search the App Store

Maybe I just noticed it in the past few days, but now when I do a search in the App Store, I get this silly list of trending apps. I don't care that emojis are trending high ... it's of no use and no interest to me. Ever. It just makes me angry I have to look at this stupid nonsense.

I tried toggling the buttons in the settings but it doesn't change anything. Is there a way to turn off this? Is there a work around?

I'm running 8.1.3 on an iPad Air 2, iPhone 5s and the original iPad Mini.

If there is, I haven't been able to find it... I can ignore the fact that it's there and it doesn't bother me...

Well I can't ignore it because now I have to tap twice to search instead of once. PITA!

Unless the App Store defaults to or is set on the search page when you start the app, wouldn't you still have to tap twice, even if there were no trending apps displaying?

1. Tap on the Search icon at the bottom of the screen

2. Tap in the search bar to type the item to be searched.

No, just tap twice once the app is open. Open the app, tap search, then tap the search box. At least that is what I do on my iPhone 5. It is the second tap that annoys me because I always forget to do it.
