i phone 6, software up to date. It used to work fine when I spoke in a normal (even a soft voice) but now Siri only response if I SCREAM really load?!? All other microphone based apps work fine (e.g., voice memos or regular phone calls).

Restart the phone... If that doesn't help... Reinstall the iOS...

Hi welcome to iMore and sorry you have a problem with your 6.

Have you tried a reboot? If that doesn't work, backup your device and try a factory restore. If the mic works fine in every other app and function then it seems likely it's a software error. Taking the software back to how it was at the start often resolves issues like this. You can restore from the backup you created after establishing if the device works and see if it changes. If it does then I'd venture that it is an app causing some interference.

The possible cause is that Siri learned your voice and she could only recognise you under such volume.
If you like, you can reset what Siri has learned about your voice by turning Siri off and then back on in Settings > General > Siri.
