What does Photos do with Image that were Referenced in Aperture

Aperture has the capability to not sore the masters in the Aperture Library but rather keep them on a different external drive or different location outside the aperture library. Will these image get imported into the Photos App. Can the Photos app work with Referenced Images?

Photos is still in beta... what may be true about it today might not be when it releases... hate to say "wait and see" - but that is all one can say for now...
