When I upgraded my phone this morning half my contacts just disappeared I tried what you suggested re turning off and on Contacts but it did not work? Please help.

First of all, who are you referencing when you say that you "tried what you suggested..."? Have you logged into the mail service via a computer to see if your contacts are present? If they are then reconfigure the mail account on the device. The contacts should sync afterwards. Have you tried logging out of the mail service on the device and then reconfiguring it? Have you tried rebooting your device?

Those may be the Gmail contacts. Try going to Mail, Contacts and Calendars >Gmail account >Toggle on Contacts. If it's already on, toggle off, then Toggle back on.
