Why is my trash can icon grayed out when I try to delete photos from my iPhone?

trash can icon is grayed out when I try to delete photos from iphone

I followed the steps in the how-to on deleting photos from my iPhone 4, but, when I got to the very last step -- dragging all the photos I'd selected to the trash, I found that the trashcan icon was grayed out. Any advice?

How did the pictures get on the phone? If they were synced from your computer through iTunes, then you need to delete them with iTunes.
