Downloaded iTunes TV shows that are not compatable with my iPod

Hi
I download a few Disney TV shows for my daughter. They downloaded to my iTunes account but when I wanted to transfer them to my iPod I received a message saying they are not compatible with my iPod. I have no idea why they wouldn't be compatible I have several other Disney shows on it. How do I know before I download a show or video if it is compatible with my device? I don't want to make this mistake again, too costly .

You'd get that message if you downloaded a video in HD and the iPod isn't capable of that...
