Why does my iPod go dead when I don't do anything on it?

my ipod goes dead randomly when i do nothing on it and sometimes when its full charged it goes dead

What model of iPod do you have? How long have you had it?

Does it go dead as in the battery fully drains or does it shut itself off? My 5th generation has shut itself off a handful of times. Usually I just reboot it and then it's fine. Seems to have stopped happening since the latest iOS update.
