Why won't Spotify continue to play music when I'm not in the app?

I t used to play anytime, i.e. when the screen was locked or I was in another app or in email account and now it will only play if I have Spotify open. I must have accidentally changed a setting but I don't know what and therefore can't change it back... Any idea's

Re: When I try to play spotify on my iphone 5s, it will only play music when I am in the app.

You could try starting fresh by deleting it and reinstalling.
