Is there a way to remotely extract GPS coordinates from my mobile devices?

I am wondering if there is any way I can remotely extract the GPS coordinates from my mobile devices. I know how to use Find My iPhone to try and locate my IOS mobile device, but I am wondering if I can bypass that App and actually get the GPS coordinates of the device remotely. Or is there a way have having the devise broadcast its GPS coordinates to me.
