How to get the 2G option back

Hi,
I was wondering if it?s possible to get back the option to change the mobile network from 3G to 2G (or EDGE). I live in a place where 3G has weak signal. I read on a site iPhonehacks that this option is brought back in IOS version 8.1 - but this is not true in my case. I have tried now both 8.1 and 8.1.2 versions, with no luck on this matter. If this is not possible, then could you please tell me if its possible to switch back to IOS 7 - because this option means more to me than anything IOS 8 has over IOS 7.

Far as IKnow, that's a function of the carrier settings that is completely in the hands of service providers... Some will offer it, some won't.

Also it is not possible to switch back to ios 7.
