Iphone 6 activated; backed up data to ICloud; need to transfer all data; how?

Purchased & activated IPhone 6. Backup on IPhone 5 was not current @ the time; therefore, no transfer of data. Now ICloud backup on IPhone 5 is complete. Need to transfer data - how do I do that since phone has been activated? Must the phone be connected to Wi-Fi to facilitate the transfer of data? How long does the process take?
I have received notice of software update (IOS 8.1.2) should that be updated before attempting the data transfer?

Yes, do the iOS update first... then restore the back-up of the 5 to the 6. You'll also need to sync to iTunes for Apps, music, etc. And yes, you'll need wifi...
