I have an iPad 3. There is now no charge. Purchased Apple brand 12W charger and cable. Plugging into charger, power button, and hard reset sequence all show Red low battery message, which blinks 5 times.

I'd heard 3 blinks means not recieving charge. Is there any diagnostic information in the number of blinks?

Any way to recover with / without iTunes?

    Thanks, Hobbs

It may be the battery on the iPad is very, very low. Plug it in, and leave it be for several hours.

    Thanks Keith,
Left on wall charger overnite, no change. Would you recommend loading iTunes and attempting a reload in DFU mode?

DFU mode isn't going to be any good here... if you have AppleCare on the iPad that's still active, a visit to an AppleStore is in order...

Ufortuneatley, this is a 3rd party refurb.

Anyway, have you heard of a unrecoverable device if the battery is run completely down, and if the number of flashes of the low battery message is a diagnostic?

    Thanks again.
