How can I save text messages on my iphone to a file that can be used on my laptop?

In the message app, tap/hold one of the messages in a thread you want to do something with... you'll be able to have radio buttons to select what you want in the thread... then tap the arrow in the bottom right... they'll go into a new message... enter an email address in the "to"... send it... retrieve email... do with it what you want... or, if your computer is a Mac, set it up to be able to use iMessage and see your conversations on your AppleID on the computer too.

Did you select "More..." after you selected the messages?
