Texting to a Droid phone problem

I have the Droid phone my son has the iphone 6 plus. He can tecxt me but I can't text him. Don't know what the problem is .

Check and see if your texting the correct number. Enter his number in your device manually

Did you have an iPhone previously? Did you de-register your phone number in iMessage prior to changing phones?
