    I have done as yo have said by sliding my finger to the left but unable to get to the delete stage the song just starts to play

    you have to just press and slided in one motion. Other than that i'm not sure what may be wrong. It works for me.

    Another method that i think would work is just plug it into you're computer and delete it through itunes.
