If i change my number but keep whatsapp, will people see my new number?

Basically, i have whatsapp installed. I was speaking to someone who i dont want to anymore (on my old number), so i got my new number, and then opened whatsapp (but didnt do anything i.e. talk to anyone etc.). So will the person who i was speaking to on my old number be able to somehow get my new number or be able to see my new number as i opened whatsapp with my new number?

Hmmm, Interesting question. I would like to know the answer too. Did someone have an experience with it
