Why can't I delete my old email from icloud?

Icloud in my settings on my iPhone 4s is stuck verifying my old email. I can't delete it and keeps asking me to sign in to my old email. I sign in and it says wrong password and I know the password is correct. How do I delete the old email and stop its attempt to verify old email?

Have you tried deleting the account and re-adding it?
