To turn off automatic app updates in IOS, go to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads > Updates > [OFF]. There are also options for Music, Apps and Books. The Apps is for auto downloading apps purchased via iTunes or another device. Updates is for auto downloads of app updates.

There is no automatic updates for iOS itself. You get the notification under Settings > General > Software Update. You can either install it or not. There is no way to disable the notificaiton.
