how do I transfer music from my phone to my new laptop?

Sharepod doesn't work. I downloaded that because everyone said it was free. I got 25 random songs transferred to ITunes and then it said to buy it for $40 to get the rest. Whats the free, easy way to get music from my phone to my computer?
