Wow. I still have an original 4 running with someone in my family. Never had a problem with any of the others either.

I think the issue is the way you handle your electronics. Or do you live by the beach. ?

What are you doing to your phones? I had my 4S for two years before I traded it in for my 5S.

I've got a bunch of old devices of different brands and OS's. Honesty, they all still work. Are you really tough on your devices by any chance?

We still have a 2g iPod touch going strong, 3 4's, 1 4s, 2 5's, 2 5s' in my immediate family not a problem with any of them. Well there would be one more 4s but my BIL killed it (he paints airplanes and got dust throughout the phone and it just wouldn't work anymore.)

There is no life expectancy of any phone. It's how you treat it. My co-worker believe it or not still has the 3G iPhone which he has had for 5 years.
My 5C is going on 14 months, and still running strong.

Same here. My original iPhone still powers up. It was in service from 2007 launch day until 2009 when I got a 3GS.
Here's a pic I posted recently next to the 6+.
