Why have all my calendar entries disappear after the update?

Upgraded to 8.1 on iPhone 5C, gmail calendar gone

I have both an outlook calendar set up through my cox email account and a gmail calendar through my gmail account. Both are ticked under settings. I even deleted them and reset them. No calendar events, past or future for my main one (gmail), though I do have a few events on the cox calendar (which I rarely use). Have searched the web for suggestions - found none that have worked. Help?

Have you deleted the account and then done a reboot? Hold in both buttons until the Apple logo comes up then try adding the account back in.

Have tried your solution (unticked all calendars, rebooted, added them back in) - did it 3 times. It revives my outlook calendar events, but nothing at all for my gmail one. Any other suggestion?
