Why are apps not updating?

Is it because I haven't updated to iOS 8? App updates are set to manual, but when I hit update, it just opens the apps, doesn't update them.

Some of the apps not updating: Chase Mobile, IP Cam viewer, Redfin.

Being that you failed to mention what iOS version your device is using, it's possible, depending on the app.
