Does QuickTime work with Mavericks after performing upgrade for Yosemite?

I upgraded QuickTime to be compatible with Yosemite but I am still running Mavericks. Why will Quicktime not work in Mavericks after performing the upgrade?

QuickTime works for me with OS X Yosemite, and therefore, I can only *assume* that the updated version you installed with OS X Mavericks can only be run on Yosemite. Again, I'm only speculating...
