I forgot to disable my iMessage and Apple ID before switching to Android, how long will it be before I can start sending text messages?

forgot to disable imessage and apple id before switching to android

I recently upgraded to an android device from an iPhone I already called apple support and they disabled any apple services associated with my phone number but still cant send any text messages to anyone. T-Mobile said I just have to wait does anyone know how long might take before I can start sending text messages again?
