What is the process for updgrading the MacBook Pro with SSD?

Updgrading MacBook Pro with and SSD

I just ordered a refurbished standard (no-retina) 15" MacBook Pro. It is coming with only a regular HDD so I am purchasing an SSD to go with it. I was wondering what the process is for upgrading. I will not have any files to move over, as I will be installing the SSD when I get the MacBook. What do I need to do after I hook up the SSD? Will I just be able to hook it up and go through the OSX drive format thing, or are there other steps required? Thanks for the help!

I don't have a Solid State Drive (SSD), but I did find installation information via the Apple Support Community.
