I have an iPhone 5 on a hotspot/tethering contract, which enables me to use it to tether my iPad mini to it so I can access the internet. This meets 99% of my needs and I have no need for anything more such as a traditional broadband router setup.

However, I am unable to backup my iPhone settings and content (iTunes and pictures etc) because it is unable to connect to the internet as the iPhone is the hotspot.

Is there a solution and work around to this?

I can not think of one myself other than reverting to having a land line with a broadband and wifi router?

Go to a free wifi hotspot like Starbucks and do it there.
