Why did most of my notes disappear from my iPhone 5 and iPad?

Weeks ago, i upgraded to ios8 on my phone. Just today i noticed that many of my notes are gone, from the phone and my ipad. They are not there when i sign in to icloud. Help!

Notes, along with calendar events, reminders, contacts, and mail depend on which internet accounts you have set up on your device(Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) and are sometimes created under different accounts. For example, I have some notes that are in my Yahoo account and some that are under my iCloud account. Restoring from iCloud only helps if you had the notes and their corresponding accounts signed in under Settings(Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc.) when you made the backup you're restoring from.
