I need 5.4 GB of storage to upgrade to new OS; how can I add more GB of storage?

Hi and welcome to iMore.

You can't add storage to an iPad, you will have to delete items from your iPad to give you the space.

Alternatively, connect to iTunes and upgrade through that as it won't download the upgrade direct to your iPad then.
