After doing a system restore only 1/4 of my photos were retrieved. Why?

The system restore was required after a software 8 update was done and my phone was then disabled. 82 of my photos came through after the restore, but nothing before September 2014. I've had the phone since January with lots of pics. I was able to find a lot of my camera uploads in my laptop dropbox folder, but not some that I really want. Don't understand why some came through and others did not.

If those photos were in your Photostream then they would not be visible on the device because iCloud will only store them for 30 days.
