Can you set up a new iPhone 5s from an iPad backup?

Got my wife an iPhone 5s to finally get her off Android. She already has most of her stuff between her Mac and iPad (mini). Is there a way to "restore" or set up her new iPhone from an iPad backup?

The option to setup from an iPad backup does show up but I'm not sure if it actually works. I've never tried because most of what I use on my iPad I don't use on my iPhone & vise versa. The only advise I could give is to try it out & see what information will transfer over. If you can wait for someone that's tried this to chime in.
