imessage waiting for activation

I am currently overseas and my imessage on my IPhone 5C has recently stopped working, it had been fine the first few weeks of the trip. we have exhausted all possible avenues to get it working again ie: changing date/time, resetting settings, deactivating and reactivating.

I notice that my phone number isn't ticked under 'send & receive' and we are not given the option of selecting it.

Please help

Are your network setting set to not use data when roaming?

I assume you have Internet access, either via Wi-Fi or cellular data during the times you send & receive iMessages.

That happened to me a few times. Go to contacts & make sure your personal contact info is listed as an iPhone, if not change it. Then turn iMessage off, reboot your device & turn iMessage back on & select your number to send & receive. This works for me, hope it works for you also. Good Luck!!
