Why am I unable to hear music & sounds from many apps and games?

I am having issues with sounds and music no longer being heard on many of the apps and games I have on my iPad 4. Anyone have a suggestion? I've tried shutting sounds on and off, shutting down the iPad but only certain websites and videos produce sounds, none of the games have sounds anymore. So it's very inconsistent.

Have you done a reset? Hold in both button until the apple logo comes up. Also have you checked the sounds tab in the setting and also in the app settings if there are ones for that app.
