I can't seem to forward received emails. If I go to contacts and find a recipient, it doesn't light up blue in the "to" area and won't deliver.

Try tapping on the left facing arrow on the bottom of an open email and choose Forward then tap on the circle plus icon

Also make sure you have either a wifi connection or a cellular connection, you need that to send and receive email. Also make sure you have an email account set up.
