How to make a group for texting

How do I set up a group on my Iphone to text messages to the group?

1. Initiate a new text message
2. Select the + sign in the upper right corner to add the people who will be in the group.
3. Enter your message and then send it.

While you can create a group message, you cannot create a group in your contacts to use to send messages to.
