Setting up Verizon Iphone 5s on ATT

I'm buying a friend's Verizon 5s and want to put it on my work AT&T account. My Verizon acct is my primary and it's the most current with pics music etc. on a Verizon iPhone 5s
Does it matter whether I:
1) Set it up using a Verizon backup and then install the AT&T sim or
2) Put in the AT&T sim and then restore it from the Verizon backup?

I could also set it up as a new phone but this will obviously take a lot more work.

First, make sure your friend has turned off "find my iPhone", and signed out of and removed all iCloud accounts on the device... then wipe the device via settings... from there, install your AT&T sim and proceed with set-up as a new device, then restore the last back-up of your previous device and you should be good to go.
