Personally, I'd still get a 13 inch display. In my opinion, it's the perfect size for general laptop use.

If those were my uses I'd get the 13" non-retina with the largest hard drive available and then replace the existing non-SSD hard drive with an SSD and move the non-SSD to the DVD spot and put the DVD drive in an enclosure to be used as a USB DVD drive. There are kits available to so this. OWC offers one that includes the tools, parts and instructions to put a hard drive in the DVD bay and optionally includes the external DVD enclosure.

I agree with the others, 13" is definitely the sweet spot for what you'll be using it for. I use to have a 13" & I ended up upgrading to a 15" a couple if years ago. Even though I absolutely LOVE the 15", it's a bit too hefty for me to travel with so I use it as my primary computer at home & I have an 11" Air that I take with me.

If you're going travelling then I agree with the others that a 13" is the one to get.
