Has anyone experienced the iPad mini crashing on them as you try to open applications.

Not at all! My rMini runs perfectly. Is there a particular app this happens with & are you jailbroken?

When this happens I would suggest as most of us do is to delete the app, Reboot to purge any old cache and reinstall the app. That usually remedies the problem. Good luck and let us know if that resolves your issue.
