confused as to whether i am using wi-fi or not on my new iphone

I am using up my data allowed and I cant understand whether I am on wi-fi or not...Which apps are wi-fi and will i see something on my iphone4 that tells me if i am using wi-fi?

You can tell if you are on wifi by looking to the right of your carrier up top. If it has the thing that looks like a pizza slice it's wifi. If it says LTE or 4G or 3G etc you are not connected to wifi

The wi-fi indicator in the bar with your battery percentage and times lets you know if you're on wi-fi or not.

Top left corner, to the right of AT&T, is your WiFi network strength indicator...if you're using WiFi, you will see it. If you're using cellular, it will indicate your cellular network there (EDGE, 3G, 4G, LTE).
