Great question. Although I can't say for certain at this point, my gut feeling is that it won't. Of course, I have no proof whatsoever to back my claim, and we won't know for sure until Apple makes that information public.

I doubt it will support iPhone 4. The 4s will probably be the low guy on the totem pole this time around. Just my guess.

I think the 4 will be left behind on this one given how it fared when iOS 7 first launched. If iOS 8 makes any leap, I don't know that the 4 would be able to handle that.

I think it will pick up with the 4S and depending on when the iPhone 6 and IOS 8 come out - Maybe the 4S would drop but that is only a guess.

will ios 8 support iphone 4

Impossible to answer since iOS 8 isn't even really relevant right now...the only thing you'll get from anyone is speculation, and with that, I speculate that if Apple follows their format they have thus far, the iPhone 4 will be dropped from the firmware support just like the 3GS was last year...you will have also noticed that the iPhone 4 was missing several iOS 7 features last fall, so that would probably further indicate it's inching closer and closer to being obsolete.

Your only glimmer of hope is Apple decided to address the lag problem on the i4 with 7.1 something that surprised me but I assume they were just righting some wrongs and that's all the support the i4 is ever going to get for now on
