    I bought a new iPhone 5s.
It's unlocked and has the model number A1533 and ME296LL/A.
It is running the latest iOS 7.0.4(11B554a) and my carrier is Etisalat 15.5 in the UAE.

Under Settings > Cellular, I have the option to select 4G on or off and it says that 4G has faster data rate.

When my phone runs on 4G, it displays 4G next to the Carrier name and the fastest speed I have registered on it 10.72mbps with a low of 3mbps.

Does this 4G mean LTE or just 4G in general? Because from my understanding, 4G and 4G LTE are two different things with different data rates.

Other iPhones like a friend of mine has the LTE option instead of the 4G option that is displayed in my iPhone.

    The iPhone5S will support LTE anywhere it's available... if you're seeing 4G - you're likely getting HSPA+

Confirm with your carrier what is available...

Thanks. But the toggle that says switch 4G on or off on my iPhone, is it the same toggle that switches LTE on and off for other iPhone 5s?

PS. I posted the question as a guest. My bad.

That's ok and no under settings tab Cellular and you will see right under Cellular data where you can Enable LTE. Tap until you see green and your display will switch to LTE. Also ask your carrier if they have LTE in your city.

This is the screen shot of what I see in the Cellular Data tab. I don't have a LTE option. I got off the phone with the carrier and they have LTE in my city, which is supposed to give me 150MBPS

That means LTE service is not offered by your carrier.

I notice the name of your carrier and don't recognize it. Can you tell me where it is and even though you bought your phone direct from Apple unlocked I am kind of surprised that you don't have that option in your screenshot. In this case I would call Apple and ask them for their explanation.

The A1533 model will not support LTE outside of North America. What country did you purchase your iPhone in?

Then you are trying to use a device that is not designated for LTE service in the country you're trying to use it in. Given that I believe that model number references an AT&T or Tmobile US version, I can only assume you purchased this device because it was cheaper than actually buying an iPhone in your country for proper use with your local carriers. This would be a pretty clear reason why LTE is not being offered on your device...for the same reason that even here in the states, LTE service can't be used on an iPhone if someone tries to activate it with a carrier it isn't designated for.

    Thanks guys for your help.

I bought the American version, not because it was cheap but because the local version of my phone here in the UAE blocks Facetime and Tethering. So I guess I can live without LTE for now and use it when I go back to Canada (iA).

My carrier uses LTE, but my phone has been saying 4G since iOS 7. Before it would say LTE. So just because it says 4G does not mean your carrier doesn't support LTE. You should check with your carrier to make sure.
