Can you facetime on a MacBook Pro with Messages? I ask only it is greyed out along with the bandwidth limit in preferences. If you can can someone please tell me how ? TIA

You don’t use Messages... there’s a separate FaceTime app in Mountain Lion and Mavericks...

Neither...it's video chat. You have to set up the FaceTime account with either a phone number (iOS devices) or an email (OSX devices). At that point, you can make outgoing and receive incoming video FaceTime calls.

its an ipad so I take it because its an ios device but has no phone number I insert an email asddress?
