I have a Mac book pro, an iPad (4th generation) and a Samsung Galaxy S3. I would like to text people from my iPad that don't use iMessage. Is that a possibility? I can't figure out how to even set up iMessage. My settings, under Messages, only has my Apple ID and won't accept my phone number. Thanks for any help!

You cannot send an SMS message from your iPad. You can send iMessages to other iOS devices and other Macs running iMessage capable OSes, however, you CANNOT send an iMessage to an non-Apple device. To set up iMessage on your iOS capable device, go to Setting-Messages and then enable iMessage.
