Asking Siri to retrieve email

iMore Question

Hello,

I have my iPhone 5s set up to use gmail instead of regular mail. When I ask Siri to find new emails, it doesn't find any, even though there is one that just arrived in my gmail. I f I go to the Mail app and bring it up, then Siri finds it.

How can I change my configuration so that I do not have to manually bring up Mail for Siri to find ALL my new emails?

I am assuming you meant that you are using the Gmail app instead of the native mail app. If so, then I'm not surprised if Siri doesn't read mail from a competitor's app. That doesn't mean she can't, however. Anyway, using the native Mail app, Siri quickly retrieved and read an email message that was sent to my Gmail account.

If you have notifications on for your gmail app and the latest emails are still there unread, you can ask Siri to read your notifications, that way she will read your gmail app notifications ?but will also read any other notifications you may have.
