My inbox shows 12 new messages, but there aren't any.

in my inbox the new mail shows 12 but ther is none i have checked all the other folders but the are not the.
as more new mail arrives the figure get bigger 13 ect, the go when idelete them **** it neverdrops below 12 help!

If you have more than one email account, you should check the email for the other account.

In Mail go to Edit > then scroll down and check off Unread and then Done. All unread mail will be consolidated in there.

I've noticed on my iPhone 5S running iOS 7.0.4 jailbroken with evasi0n7 1.0.1, the update is a bit delayed once you've read your emails until the badge is removed. It may be just this same delay that you're experiencing.

In your "All Inboxes", pull down on the list of emails and let it refresh. Don't exit out of email until the bottom reads "Updated just now". This has worked to clear the badge from mine. Good luck.

If none of that works, Delete the email acct, Reboot your phone and set the email acct back up again.
