Baseband 05.16.08 unlock?

I am using an iPhone 3gs with BB 05.16.08. I need to unlock because I use T-Mobile, and IMEI unlocking for T-Mobile is over 100 dollars. I don't care if my BB is downgraded, but I can't use the iPad BB because I have the newer model. I don't care about the OS because redsn0w can preserve BB during a restore anyway. Is it possible to unlock it? I'll be willing to jailbreak, since I'll probably do it anyway.

Your current baseband version is not unlockable nor can it be downgraded since you can't put the iPad baseband on your 3GS.
