Missing iPhoto's

I just upgraded to iphone 5s and all my photos in iPhoto app are missing??!!

1. Did you back them up prior to upgrading?
2. Where is the device you upgraded from? Are the photos still on it?
3. Did you have the photo stream enabled on your former device? If so, is photo stream enabled on your iPhone 5S so that those photos can sync to it?

4. In regard to the iPhoto app, is it installed on your new device?
