This is a general recommendation only.

1. General web surfing, reading, email, texting and a few games, get a 16 GB model.

2. Games, music, photos, some videos stored on the device, get the 32 GB model.

3. A lot of both 1 & 2, get the 64 GB model.

I currently have the 16gb version, and I personally recommend to go with 32gb. I will be returning mine for a 32gb version, since when it comes to getting the most out of the iPad 16gb is not nearly enough. A lot of apps are now 1 or more gigs, and therefor you would be limited with the apps you can have on your device.

It all depends on how you plan to use it. I know many people that never get close to filling a 16. Then there are some that do a lot multi media stuff and recording music and went with a 128.
Just really think about how you may use it and if you will want to expand beyond your basic needs.
